2016 Mazda CX-9: The Triumphant Return

When the CX-9 made its quiet retreat into the shadows a few years ago, it was mainly because models like the smaller CX-7 and the even smaller CX-5 and CX-3 were taking centre stage. The market and desire for large three-row SUVs had dwindled, so Mazda focused on the models that were desired, and sadly that wasn’t the CX-9 at the time. Well, that’s all changed now.
Bold on the Outside, Spacious on the Inside
First thing you’ll notice about the all-new 2016 Mazda CX-9 is the absolutely stunning exterior design that features KODO “Soul of Motion” cues and language perfectly in line with the rest of the Mazda family lineup. A strong shoulder line and equally bold rear design ensure this SUV makes a serious statement on the road and will be noticed no matter where you go. This is more than just a people carrier. Inside, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 offers available amenities such as Nappa leather and a rose wood trimmed centre console and door inserts (on the Signature model only), as well as an available 8” colour touchscreen display with MAZDA CONNECT, heated steering wheel, and an optional 12-speaker premium Bose audio system. Of note: the CX-9 offers more second- and third-row legroom than the new Toyota Highlander, which means your onboard passengers (even if you haul 6 plus yourself, the driver) will be cruising in luxury and comfort at all times while seated in the Mazda CX-9.
There are four different Mazda CX-9 models available. And while they each offer up a different set of amenities and a few exterior tweaks and adjustments, what they all have in common is the engine: a SKYACTIV-G 2.5T 4-cylinder mill that produces 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The turbo is a unit Mazda calls a DPT (Dynamic Pressure Turbo) used for optimal performance and efficiency.

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 also features i-ACTIV AWD that comes standard on all models save for the base GS (where it is optional).
